ARE YOU AND YOUR SKIN THE SAME AGE?

Does your skin have a sallow or dull appearance? Is it rough to the touch? Do you have fine lines, wrinkles or blemishes?

There are a lot of harmful agents that affect our skin. Including smoking, alcohol, spicy foods, our diets, and the environment and so on and so on. How we treat our skin is the best defense against all of these elements. Your basic weapons in this battle can be summarized by five basic steps. They are: cleanse, tone, moisturize, SPF and exfoliation. These steps will help your skin feel and look younger and glow like that of a baby's.
We all need to cleanse our skin for AM and PM. We need to start our skin off with the best defenses in the morning, and at night we need to wash off all the dirt and toxins that we have collected during the day. A toner for our specific skin type helps to balance out the Ph (potential hydrogen) levels in our skin to help remove acidity. Even if you believe you have oily skin, you still need moisturizer. We all need to hydrate our skin, and moisturizers act as humectants which draw moisture to the skin. Do I need to say it???……SPF for everyone!! Just because you are black and beautiful doesn't mean the sun can not affect you. Even on the cloudiest days, the sun is still strong and can cause damage. The minimum SPF for your face should be 15…..everyday Ladies and Gentlemen!!!

Exfoliation is the key to the skin's smooth and silky feel…..exfoliation helps get rid of the dead skin cells that sit on our face, making it feel rough and look older than it is. We should exfoliate at least 2-3 times a week to help new skin cells resurface to give us that radiant GLOW!!

A special tip for you…any chance you have to get a professional facial…GO FOR IT!!! This is a "secret weapon" for your face. These professionals can see things that you may not notice. Some spas may be a little pricey, especially with this economy, but check out Esthetic schools. All the services are done by students with supervising teachers, and the prices are at least 75% off those Newbury Street spas. Some places to check out are, Catherine Hinds in Woburn, Elizabeth Grady in Malden and Bojack in West Roxbury.
